The Metropolitan Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following a reported stabbing at an upscale nightclub in London’s Mayfair, an incident that has attracted significant attention after reportedly taking place during a birthday celebration attended by Premier League footballers.
Police were called shortly after midnight on Monday, August 10, following reports of an assault at a venue on St James’s Street in Mayfair. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and found a 37-year-old man suffering slash injuries to his neck.
The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were described as potentially life-changing but were not considered life-threatening at the time of the available report.
The reported attack took place at the Mistress of Mayfair nightclub during a birthday celebration for Aston Villa footballer Leon Bailey. A number of Premier League players were reportedly among the guests at the venue when the incident occurred, bringing the celebration to an abrupt end.
Following the stabbing, detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Central West command began investigating the circumstances and working to identify the person responsible.
The investigation later led officers to a residential property in Hertford, Hertfordshire, where armed police carried out an operation.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the property on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to a west London police station. The arrest followed the police investigation into the reported nightclub assault.
Reality television personality Yazmin Oukhellou was reportedly at the Hertford property when police arrived. However, she was not arrested and has not been identified as a suspect in the stabbing.
Her presence at the property should therefore not be interpreted as evidence that she was involved in the alleged attack.
The police operation reportedly involved Metropolitan Police officers working with officers from Hertfordshire. The arrested man was seen being taken from the residential building, while officers also removed items from the property as part of the investigation.
According to the reporting provided, a nitrous oxide canister was among the items recovered. There has been no suggestion that the item belonged to Oukhellou or that it was connected to the stabbing.
Oukhellou became widely known after appearing on ITV2’s The Only Way Is Essex. Her reported presence at the property has consequently brought additional public attention to an investigation that otherwise centers on the alleged attack in Mayfair.
Authorities have not yet publicly established the full sequence of events that preceded the stabbing. Investigators will continue examining evidence, interviewing witnesses and establishing the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
The arrest represents an important development in the investigation, but an allegation or arrest does not establish guilt. The suspect remains in custody while police continue their inquiries.
Investigators are also expected to examine the relationship, if any, between the people involved and determine what happened inside or around the Mayfair venue before the reported attack.
For now, the 37-year-old victim remains at the center of concern as he receives medical treatment, while detectives work to establish exactly what happened during the early-morning incident.
