The Cambridge, Maryland, community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Alivea Todd, who died Tuesday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash on Church Creek Road in Dorchester County.
According to the Maryland State Police, troopers from the Easton Barrack responded at approximately 4:14 p.m. on August 11, 2026, to the 2300 block of Church Creek Road, also designated Maryland Route 16, after receiving a report of a serious collision.
Preliminary information from investigators indicates that Todd was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on Church Creek Road when she approached a left-hand curve. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle reportedly lost control, left the roadway and overturned.
Todd was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified her as an 18-year-old Cambridge resident and said she was the driver of the vehicle. No other vehicles have been identified as being involved in the crash.
Emergency personnel responded following the collision while Maryland State Police investigators began documenting the scene and examining the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
The section of Church Creek Road where the collision occurred was closed for nearly two hours while investigators worked. The closure allowed authorities to examine the vehicle, roadway and surrounding area and gather evidence that could help reconstruct the moments before the crash.
At this time, investigators have not established a definitive cause for the collision. Authorities have not indicated whether speed, weather, roadway conditions, mechanical failure or another factor contributed to the vehicle leaving the road.
