The Lincoln County, Nebraska, community is mourning the loss of Dale Lake, who died from injuries sustained in a serious multi-vehicle crash on East Highway 30.
According to authorities, the collision occurred on August 9, 2026, near mile marker 199 on East Highway 30. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the scene at approximately 1:26 p.m. following reports of an injury crash involving a motorcycle and two pickup trucks.
Dale was riding a Honda Trike motorcycle with his wife, Tammy Lake, when the crash occurred. Investigators said the couple was traveling westbound behind a John Deere tractor that was being escorted by a red Ford F-250 pickup truck.
According to the preliminary investigation, Dale attempted to pass the tractor and the escort vehicle. After returning to the westbound lane, another pickup truck behind the motorcycle also attempted to pass the tractor and overtake the Honda Trike.
Authorities said Dale later attempted another passing maneuver as he approached the red Ford F-250. At that point, he encountered the other vehicle that was also attempting to pass and was unable to complete the maneuver or slow down in time to avoid a collision.
The impact threw both Dale and Tammy from the motorcycle. Authorities confirmed that both were wearing helmets when the crash occurred.
Emergency responders from Brady Fire and North Platte Fire arrived at the scene and provided medical assistance. Dale and Tammy were transported to Great Plains Health for treatment.
Because of the severity of his injuries, Dale was later transferred to a medical facility in Omaha for additional care. Despite medical efforts, he died on August 10, 2026, one day after the crash.
Tammy survived the collision and continues to recover from the injuries she sustained.
For Dale’s family, friends and loved ones, his death has turned a serious roadway crash into a heartbreaking loss. The sudden nature of the incident has left those closest to him facing grief while Tammy continues her recovery.
The crash also serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise when multiple vehicles attempt to pass on a busy highway, particularly when motorcycles and slower-moving agricultural equipment are involved. Investigators will determine the circumstances and contributing factors based on evidence gathered from the scene.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit remains involved in the investigation. Authorities are continuing to examine the sequence of events leading to the collision as they work to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the crash.
Dale Lake will be remembered by his family and those who knew him, while his loved ones now face the difficult days ahead following a tragedy that claimed his life.
