Winfield Kansas Shooting – Six Family Members Found Dead in Winfield Home After Apparent Murder-Suicide, Father Kills Wife And Four Children In kansas

Six members of a family, including four children between the ages of 3 and 9, were found dead inside a Winfield home Tuesday after authorities said a man reported that he had killed his family before turning the gun on himself.

The tragedy occurred on August 11, 2026, at a residence in Winfield, in southeast Kansas. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation identified the deceased as Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53; Kelly L. George, 44; Carol A. Williams, 9; Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7; Sarah K. Williams, 5; and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.

Authorities said Williams Sr. and George were listed on the children’s birth certificates as the parents of all four children. Investigators also said no one else was known to have been living at the home.

According to Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong, Williams called 911 at approximately 8:50 a.m. and told authorities that he had killed his entire family and was preparing to take his own life.

Winfield police officers happened to be in the area and were approaching the residence when they heard a single gunshot. Authorities believed the gunshot was Williams shooting himself.

Officers did not immediately enter the home. Police remained outside while authorities assessed the situation and determined how to safely approach the residence.

At approximately 10:57 p.m., officers made the decision to breach the entrance to the home, DeLong said during a news conference held around 6 p.m. in Winfield. Once inside, officers discovered all six people deceased.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Winfield Police Department are working together to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public following the incident.

Chief DeLong said Winfield police had some contact with Williams during the previous several weeks and that he had reportedly exhibited what authorities described as “erratic behavior.” However, the chief cautioned that nothing known to police at the time indicated that the community would ultimately face such a devastating tragedy.

“I can’t say that anything would have indicated that we would be where we are today,” DeLong said.

The deaths have left the Winfield community confronting an especially devastating loss, with four young children among those killed.

Investigators are now working to establish the complete sequence of events inside the home and determine what led to the fatal shooting. Authorities have not indicated that anyone else was involved or that any other suspect remains at large.

As the investigation continues, family members, neighbors and community members are left grieving the loss of six people whose lives ended in a single devastating incident.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation, and additional information is expected as investigators continue gathering evidence and reconstructing what happened inside the Winfield residence.
